CHAIRMAN JOHN GIOTIS’S STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR SCOTT’S VETO OF SB 106:
We thank Governor Rick Scott for his veto of SB 106, the so-called “Whiskey and Wheaties” bill. This decision will not only preserve jobs and small businesses, but will also keep our state a safer place for everyone, including young people and tourists. Since the Legislature passed this contentious bill with only the slimmest of margins, Governor Scott’s veto not only reflects his commitment to good policy, but also sound process, and we applaud his leadership.

President-Elect Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Senator Jeff Sessions, is an excellent choice, and we hope the Senate will confirm his nomination very soon. Despite claims to the contrary, Senator Sessions’s record of championing equal protection and equal justice under the law for all Americans is clear. His leadership in the Department of Justice will foster a safer and more secure country, and the Florida Council for Safe Communities is fully behind his confirmation.
BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: CHAIRMAN JOHN GIOTIS’S STATEMENT ON AMENDMENT 1
October 18, 2016
Today, Florida Council for Safe Communities Chairman John Giotis released the following statement on Amendment 1, which will appear on Florida General Election ballots:
“As Florida voters begin voting early next week and continue to vote by mail, the Florida Council for Safe Communities urges a “yes” vote on Amendment 1. Ballot initiatives can be confusing, and it is important to know the truth about their impact on our state. Amendment 1 will protect the poorest citizens in Florida from being required to subsidize the wealthiest citizens. Safeguarding our low-income neighbors while promoting expanded energy options is a win for everyone in our great state, and we hope our fellow Floridians will pass this important amendment to our state constitution.
